CN trained initially as a pianist as well as a singer and composer; after an initial severe wrist break and multiple surgeries they eventually lost the use of their right hand as an undergraduate. After a final surgical intervention and extensive rehabilitation, they regained enough use to slowly redevelop their own piano practice incorporating the changes made by their impairment.

Their primary work as a pianist is through their own songs/performances as a singer-songwriter, but they also perform and accompany others as part of their work with Transpose and Trans Voices, in artist collaborations with other performers – such as Nando Messias’s work with Staging Decadence – and as part of the performance practice of their classical composition work.

They have a particular interest in what it means to be a disabled musician – and to compose for and work with other disabled musicians and/or musicians managing impairments – in the context of an instrument famed for its virtuosity. More to come in 2025.
